Mannitol
  • Reduced-calorie sweetener with only 1.6 calories per gram
  • It is nonhygroscopic
  • Provides sweetness with a clean, cool pleasant taste
  • May be a useful alternative sweetener for people with diabetes
  • Does not contribute to the formation of dental caries
  • Used to increae urine production
  • Side affects – headache diarrhea drymouth
  • C6H8(OH)6- Mannitol is used clinically to reduce acutely raised intracranial pressure, until more definitive treatment can be given, e.g. after head trauma, and to treat patients with oliguric renal failure
  • Mannitol is a drug used to push more liquid through your kidneys and bladder.

Side affects
  • You will notice you urinate more frequently.
  • You may be more thirsty. Go ahead and drink.
  • You may experience nausea and/or vomiting. Anti-nausea drugs are available.
